Hospital Bag - What to bring?

Essentials that you need in your bag when baby is on the way !

There have always been many different opinions on what is needed in a hospital bag when a baby is on the way. Well, I am here to tell you what you should bring for your angel and yourself.

Numero Uno, babies are very unpredictable. They throw up when they want and have blowouts whenever they want. Yikes!! If you are a soon to be mama with your first, I know it sounds bad. You get used to it..eventually!

The outfits depend on what the weather looks like of course. Personally, I brought: six bodysuits, three overalls, three pants, and a going home outfit. I chose to be safer than sorry. Clothes aren't all you should bring along, like I said babies throw up. I brought a ten pack of small burp cloths with me, as well as two bigger ones. That is one decision I will never regret. Pacifiers were on my list because they help some babies self-soothe. Not all parents agree with pacifiers and that's okay to each their own! It worked out for us and that is what mattered.

If you are giving birth in a hospital they more than likely (in the U.S.) provide you with several things. My hospital provided me with: diapers, wipes, formula, one-time-use bottles, shampoo, a burp cloth, a swaddle, and even gave us a baby welcome bag. A quick tip, take everything they give you home. Hospitals already cost so much, take what is provided to you it's not hurting them! Now that your baby is fed, able to be soothed, clothed, and clean it's time to move on to you. Oh yeah, P.S., don't forget the carseat! You can't leave the hospital without it.

Now mama, don't forget you matter just as much as your baby does. You should be just as comfortable on this next journey in your life. Starting out strong are the clothes that I brought. For myself, I brought three pajama sets and a pair of joggers with a t-shirt. I also had a pack of one-hundred percent cotton underwear, not the small pretty kind.. I mean the jumbo granny ones. Trust me, after giving birth the last thing you want is some uncomfortable, scratchy material rubbing you in all the wrong places. I wanted to be as comfortable as possible before and after giving birth. Now, one thing I happened to learn is that adult diapers are the GO TO! After birth, it's basically a nonstop menstrual cycle for a while, and if you think regular pads are going to cut it... think again. I know diapers seem uncomfortable, or embarrassing. WRONG! There is nothing embarrassing about it. To be frank they were quite comfortable.

Another AMAZING item I brought was the Frida Peri Bottle. It is a spray bottle that has an angled nozzle. Many women tear while giving birth. Not all, but many do. I won't lie and say that the stitches were easy to get over, but this spray bottle relieved so much pain. While using the restroom, I would use this spray to dilute my urine so it wouldn't burn as much. I really did learn the hard way after three days of burning, not getting it wasn't an option anymore. The hospital did give me a cooling spray for down below. It is basically the same you could buy over the counter. What I did decide to buy were Frida Postpartum pads, which were so COOLING. After burning, not being able to sit down, and being so uncomfortable, this was most definitely worth it. I also brought some slides and slippers as well as fuzzy socks. A self-care /shower kit was absolutely necessary after a sweaty, tiresome labor. It consisted of: a toothbrush, toothpaste, face wash, a mini shampoo and conditioner, a couple of washcloths, mini lotion, and hair ties.

During the labor process you get pretty hot. I recommend you bring a portable fan with you. The one I got had three flexible legs that could wrap on the hospital bed rails. You can adjust it to whatever angle you want, while you're sitting up or lying down. Everyone's birth is different, what one woman goes through is never the same for the next. These are all tips that can HELP get you through the next steps. All in all, every birth is DIFFERENT, and whether it was easy or hard, it is always special.

This was such a fun blog to write and letting you all know what I chose to do. You choose what you want to do, and I wish you the best of luck. Congratulations to all the new mommas and those that are expecting. Welcome to the world of motherhood. You will be an amazing mother and your baby will love you more than anything.
